Exhibition on Voice Hearing Durham University – 5th November 2016 – 26th February 2017

An exhibition on voice hearing is going to take place at the Palace Green Library, Durham University, Durham, England from 5th November 2016 – 26th February 2017.

The exhibition is being mounted by then Library service and the “Hearing the Voice” interdisciplinary research project (hearingthevoice.org) and overseen by a steering group that includes representatives from Hearing Voices networks.

Paul Baker has been commissioned to co-curate the part of the exhibition entitled “Communities and Collectives – the story of people’s movement”

This section of the exhibition will:

  • Celebrate the ways the Hearing Voices movement has helped people around the world accept and make sense of their experiences and fight for social justice
  • Highlight the distinctiveness of voice hearing that has given rise to a powerful people’s movement, that has politics and is an experience people come together in groups to explore
  • Underscore the significance of the movement to public and clinical understandings of hearing voices
  • Improve public understanding of voice hearing
  • Reduce discrimination and misconceptions

The display will be divided into three sections:

1. The Story, 2. The Community, and 3. The Future

How you can help? They are looking for all kinds of objects that will help to illustrate the work and thinking of the Hearing voices movement from around the world.

These could include:

Photographs of people, groups, meetings and conference’s. (One suggestion from Dirk Corstens is to include photographs of people before and after they became part of the movement). Posters, flyers and other promotional information about Congresses, meetings and groups Publications, books, booklets, pamphlets T shirts, clothing, conference bags and handouts, key rings etc Videos, films, articles and news items about the Hearing voices approach Art work and other representations of voices And … all sorts of things!

Please contact Paul if you have something that you would be willing to have included in the exhibition. Please send all your suggestions and ideas to Paul Baker at paul@imhcn.org

IIMHN announces Workshop Programme for 2016 (Hearing Voices, Paranoia, Trauma, Dissociation and Voice Dialogue)

The IIMHN is pleased to announce its programme for practice development for 2016 in association with the Office of Nursing and Midwifery Services Development.  This year we plan to offer an even wider range of workshops, and in addition to our developments on hearing voices for both adults and younger people, we are pleased to add new workshops on working with paranoia, trauma and dissociation and voice dialogue.  The workshops will be facilitated by Jacqui Dillon, Peter Bullimore, Rachel Waddingham, Elisabeth Svanholmer & Rufus May, who are leaders in these areas.

The workshops will be held nationwide with the support of the Schools of Nursing in DCU, UCD, TCD, UCC and NUIG.  These workshops will encompass novice, intermediate and advanced level techniques in facilitation of the processes involved.  To book a place on one of these workshops please email or phone the designated contact person for the workshop in the list below.

Hearing Voices

This year in addition to the workshops delivered previously by Jacqui Dillon in voices awareness training, hearing voices group facilitation and advanced facilitation techniques, the IIIHN is pleased to welcome Elisabeth Svanholmer & Rufus May who will deliver workshops in Dublin, Cork and Galway on voice dialogue. We are also pleased to welcome back Rachel Waddingham who once again will deliver a series of workshops on working with younger people who hear voices.

Trauma and Dissociation

In a new development and following emerging trends in mental health, Jacqui Dillon will deliver a series of workshops on trauma and dissociation.  these workshops will deal with the areas of responsiveness and awareness for supporting survivors of trauma and abuse and seek to increase knowledge of working therapeutically with dissociative experiences and use of the DES-II.  It is hoped that the series of workshops will lead to the development of a greater understanding of the clinical relevance of dissociation and help participants increase their awareness of effective short and long-term strategies for reducing distress and gaining control.

Paranoia Workshops

Following on from the success of the hearing voices workshops this year the IIMHN are embarking on a series of workshops on working with paranoia, delivered by Peter Bullimore founder of the Paranoia Network UK.  these workshops will be delivered in NUIG, TCD and UCC.
